The Makings of a Cookbook

I never dreamed I would create a cookbook, but boy am I glad I did!  I have to say, this creative endeavor was more fun than I could have imagined.  I mean, think about it.  You get to prepare healthy delicious food, make it look pretty, take photos, then eat it!  Over and over again.

Since the topic is whole food with 4 ingredients, this project kept me on the healthy eating train.  Jeff didn't mind coming home from a 2 hour bike ride and having 3 "meals" sitting on the table, fresh from a photo shoot, needing to be eaten.  Our hobbies really do compliment each other!

I began compiling recipes during my first Dr. Cabral Detox, and realized by putting it together in a book it would help me, and hopefully others, simplify the meal preparation process.  Whole 4 Meals: whole foods, 4 ingredients, plus a touch of spice, is now available to help spark your creativeness in the kitchen.  Use it during a Detox, every day, or when you want to give your body's digestive system a little break.

I give you permission to go play with some food!

I am here for the EXPERIENCE

As Jeff was writing his blog entitled “Can a Negative Experience be Positive?” a couple weeks ago, I was busy creating a new design for T-shirts, bags, etc.  I didn’t see it at the time, but now realize our topics are intertwined.

I am a graphic artist and designed a line of inspirational greeting cards in 2009.  Although they are usually purchased and given to someone, several of them contain phrases that deeply touch my heart.  I used to choose one of the cards,  place it on my desk and allow the peaceful picture and words to inspire me throughout the day.

One of those days, I gazed at my card entitled “Journey", which reads:

Have no worries if you don’t see where your journey is taking you.
Each day take one step toward
what you want your life
to look like
to feel like
to become.

An invisible lightbulb flickered above my head showing me my sayings printed onto plaques.  That was what I wanted for my next creative endeavor.

Unfortunately, it didn’t work out.  The cost to print, stock and sell the products was not an option for me at that time.

Well, it’s 9 years later and technology has evolved tenfold!  In fact, an out of town friend asked about purchasing my greeting cards last month so I decided to look into online selling options.  Walah!  I found a website that would allow me to upload my own designs, they would print and ship them and I would get a percentage of the sale.  Although the royalty amount is nominal, this option enables me to offer my creative works to a greater audience without the inventory component.

I uploaded my holiday greeting cards first, then noticed their variety of products offered.  I scrolled through the website until my stomach jumped—they had plaques!  I could print whatever I wanted onto a plaque!  Oh my, I remembered my vision from many years ago.  Within 24 hours, I designed three plaques!

Next, I noticed t-shirts.  Although I’m not a big wearer of them, I do like zen quotes on sleeveless workout gear for Pilates class or the gym.  That light bulb appeared again, showing me that I could create my own design for printing.  Wow!  But what would it say?  Or look like?

The next morning during our 20 minute HU contemplation, I got the words: "I am here for the experience".  I knew this was to be on my first t-shirt design.  I picked up my phone to jot down those exact words in my writing app.  Back to the HU, I tried to envision how it would look.  What font?  All the words on one line?  Two lines?  All words the same size?  What if there was a symbol added?  What could it be?  What had meaning to me?

Then I “saw” the completed design.  It was to include the tree of life symbol which I have always resonated with because it reflects a connection in all things above and below, “I am here for the” above the symbol and “experience” below it.  I continued with the HU very excited for the assistance I had received.

When our contemplation was complete I looked at the quote: "I am here for the experience".  Those 6 words spoke loud and clear.  Everything I go through has value, whether it is seen as positive or negative like Jeff wrote about.  Each experience presents itself as a lesson, to teach us something big or small, painful or uplifting.  Categorizing them doesn’t even matter.  It is about the experience.

Many people wonder, “why am I here?”.  My quote answers the age old question quite succinctly:  "I am here for the EXPERIENCE".

Can a Negative Experience be Positive?

What determines if an experience is positive or negative?  It’s our perspective of an event that determines our reality.  Were you taught to look for a silver lining?  Perhaps you can find the positive element in a negative event, but let's examine the possibility that we can take it a step further.  Expand the "silver lining” concept for a moment and view the experiencein a truly wholistic context.

We are Soul, an eternal divine being inhabiting a human body at this particular time in order to maximize our experience.  Life in this physical form is a precious gift because things happening here on Earth are rich and challenging.  It’s these rich, difficult, and joyous events that push us to learn and grow if we simply adopt the right attitude, that it’s all for our benefit at the end of the day.   With divine love behind every thing that happens in our lives, we come to the realization that life events happen FOR us, not TO us.  With this outlook on life, we are armed with one of the most powerful tools imaginable for survival in this world.

If we take the opposite view and adopt the “victim” mentality—one in which we are beat up by life and events happen to us—we are defeated right out of the gate, and we can be tempted to just give up on life.  After-all, if everything is simply fate, what are we even doing?  We begin to blame others for our “misfortunes”.  We blame our circumstances, we blame God.  Self pity can be a death spiral.  Death of the spirit of living, that is.

Many years ago, I struggled with self pity.  It felt like a safe place to be.  If I couldn’t find love, then at least I might find someone to feel sorry for me.  It was a self-fulfilling downward-spiraling state of mind.  The more I moped about, trying to garner pity, the less people wanted to do with me.  After all, who wants to hang around with someone who’s always down in the dumps?

The same experience can be both negative andpositive.  Remember the movie City Slickers?  Phil, Mitch, and Ed were riding their horses along the cattle trail sharing their best days and worst days ever.  Phil and Mitch told of their best and worst days illustrating the contrast between the two.  It was then Ed’s turn.  Ed told the story of the day he stood up to his cheating father telling him they didn’t need him around any more.  He had stood up for his family. That was his best day.  “What was your worst day?” Mitch and Phil asked.  "Same Day”, was Ed’s reply.

If we adopt the attitude that things are happening for our spiritual benefit, then we are looking from that all-important spiritual viewpoint.  We are a multi-dimensional, eternal, and energetic being absorbing the experiences we need in order to recognize our own divine nature.  Soul doesn’t judge what’s happening as being bad or good, it’s just a step on the journey, and we are all on our own unique individual journey.

One might ask, what did that experience teach me?  What can I learn that will allow me to grow?  As Soul, we chose this life at this time in order for us to have the exact thing happen we need to maximize our spiritual unfoldment.  We’re here for a purpose!  Acceptance of this fact will bring us around to the realization that all is in divine order.  We can relax and allow life to flow through us without judging whether it’s bad or good.

Balancing Spiritual & Physical Health

I was excited at the idea of moving away from food topics and toward  spiritual ones. I worked on our book, On the Path of Love, feverishly editing each story to ensure the spiritual principles were highlighted.  There was no talk about food, menus, macros, or recipes, which was a complete shift for me. Emotionally, the writing and editing was much more intense, yet so rewarding that the pain was soon forgotten.

Jeff and I exhibited at a Psychic Fair a few months ago and took along my line of inspirational greeting cards and the first version of Raw Done Right from 2011, that I had left. I was trepidatious because my name printed on the cover was not current (it was from before I married Jeff) but decided the information was valid and useful.

We knew we would have a valuable experience at the event -- but what we learned was quite surprising. There was so much interest in Raw Done Right that we actually sold more copies of it than On the Path of Love!

Shocking!  But what a wake-up call.

People are seeking spirituality and health ... just like I was ... and Jeff was. The connection between the two is undeniable and from my years of searching I've encountered many, many (and I mean MANY) other seekers that are trying to find balance in their life. To be spiritually healthy. Physically healthy. Both! It was evident it was time to update Raw Done Right, starting with my name!

Jeff and I are thankful to see this connection much clearer, being reminded that becoming physically healthy enhanced our spiritual connection. We are proud to offer you our two books (yes, we're working on another one so stay tuned) in hopes they can help you as you take the next step in creating your healthy life!

Editing our book!

I love Spring time in Florida. As Jeff and I bicycle along one of our favorite routes, jasmine fills the salty ocean air with the most magical scent! It reminds us of our first months together.

Speaking of meeting, we wrote a book about it. Yes, we've mentioned it a time or two but we're getting really close to launch time now. We're in the final stages of editing and hope to go to print within a month or so.

The process has been filled with so many emotions. Writing our stories offered us a deeper look into the spiritual lessons being presented by the experiences, ones we never would have had the benefit of learning if not for our book project. We're thankful for every moment and look forward to sharing the final product, On the Path of Love, How to Recognize Divine Guidance in Your Life, with you! We'll let you know about the book launch party and book signings as details become available.

So, for now we wish you much love and a Happy Spring!

And the Stories Keep on Coming!

Happy Summer!  We hope you're enjoying the nicer weather and getting outside in the beautiful sunshine.  We're enjoying long walks along the beach, bike rides, and editing stories for our book.

It's not as if life stops because we're working on the book.  Actually, the more "in touch" we are, the more stories happen around us every day. Or perhaps we're noticing more of them.  Making time to journal what's happening daily is very important.  One aspect of writing this book that we couldn't have known ahead of time is that by writing our stories from a different level of consciousness than they originally happened in, we're learning additional lessons from them.

We are literally writing a book, while writing a book, while living a spiritual dream.  And we're loving the process!
